Other Achievements
West Hawaii Crime Stoppers was formed in February 1981 - The First Chapter on the Big Island of Hawaii.

- Member of Crime Stoppers International, Inc., since inception.
- Miss Crime Stoppers-Hawaii program started by Asako Pratt in 1986. Many inquiries on how to organize, qualifications , etc. have been received from worldwide chapters. The program has become a tremendous success story.
- In 1991, W.H.C.S. organized and hosted the first State of Hawaii Crime Stoppers Seminar. Judge Richard Carter was a featured speaker.
- In 1992 WHCS bid for and were awarded the 1994 Crime Stoppers International 1994 conference. They were the smallest program to bid and host the international conference. This was also the first conference to be held otside the mainland and the first time CSI members had to fly over water to attend. Over 700 registrants attended the week long conference and many stayed longer periods. WHCS received no Hawaii County asistance and a grant
of $10,000 from Mufi Hanneman who was then the Director of Research and Development - He is now an Honorary Drector of WHCS- The Miss Junior Crime Stoppers-Hawaii program was started in 1993, and like its senior counterpart is another success story.
- In 1993 we took a Hawaiian show "Friendship from Hawaii 1993" to appear for two shows at the C.S.I. Conference in Calgary, Canada.
- The first Student Crime Stopper program in the State was organized at Konawaena High School in 1993. This, at the request of the students.
- Hosted the 1994 C.S.I. Training Conference in Kailua-Kona. Over 600 persons visited Hawaii, being attendees and relatives.
- Asako Pratt was named as "Crime Stopper of the Year" at the 1994 conference for over 13 years of dedication, fund raising and the many programs she has started. Asako also received a personal letter from President Clinton, and was honored by the Hawaii County Police.
- Elise Hildebrand, Miss Crime Stoppers-Hawaii, was named the first Miss Crime Stoppers International by C.S.I. President Larry Wieda.
- 1993 saw our first Musical Extravaganza and Telethon Fundraiser which is now an annual event.
- Through the years we have organized golf tournaments, tennis tournaments, and many events to raise necessary funds.
- Carry out "Public Awareness" programs in Walmart and local shopping malls throughout each year.
- In 1994-1995-1996, received Television and Newsprint Media Awards at the Crime Stoppers International Conference.
- Asako and Alan Pratt were appointed Co-Chairs of the Fund Raising committee for Crime Stoppers International in 1995.
- Alan Pratt became a Board Member of C.S.I. in 1995, after serving on the Advisory Board for 1 & 1/2 years.
- In January 1997, West Hawaii Crime Stoppers incorporated the Hawaii State Crime Stoppers Association.
- W.H.C.S. opened its Web Site on April 10, 1997. The site was used as the 1997 Ontario, Canada Training Conference to demonstrate an "All round" site.
- In October 1997, Dr Alan J.Pratt, President, was elected President of Crime Stoppers International, Inc. at the CSI Annual Training Conference, held on Kelowna, British Columbia, for a 2 year term, and was reelected in 1999 in Ft. Lauderdale for the same period.
- West Hawaii Crime Stoppers celebrated its 20th anniversary on January 20, 2001.
- Alan Pratt was recognized with an award from the Kona Elks Club as the "Civilian Volunteer of the Year 2000".
- In 2000, Asako and Alan Pratt traveled over 70,000 miles to four countries for CSI, including setting up the first program in Asia, in Seoul, Korea and traveled over 60,000 miles in 2001 promoting Crime Stoppers, and attending regional conferences presenting seminars.
- After seven years of attempting to commence a dialogue with the Hawaii County Administration, and the Hawaii County Police Department, W.H.C.S. after their initial 30 page report 'THE PRICE OF VISIBILITY" was released in March 2003 regarding official marked police cars now has their attention.
Since that date the Police Department has released two reports, the Legislative Auditor one and W.H.C.S Parts 1 and 2 the initial report. A meeting with all concerned attending will be held on June 16, 2004, to discuss the issue.- Dr. Clifford D. Kopp., DDS, was elected Vice-president of both West Hawaii Crime Stoppers, and Hawaii State Crime Stoppers Association, in February 2004. He also chairs the "Visibility Committee" responsible for the marked police cars report.
The Hawaii County Council passed a Resolution in late 2004 requiring the administration to prepare a report and a transition to a County owned fleet or part fleet of marked police vehicles by the fiscal year 2006/2007. A special steering committee was formed and the sole West Hawaii representative is Dr. Clifford Kopp. DDS from the WHCS Board of Directors. The committee meets twice monthly in Hilo.
