The Big Island of Hawaii is... More! More Historic
More Exciting With the great variety of terrain and climate, the Big Island is a natural for sportsmen. Its clear waters are perfect for the fishermen and its miles of open space lures hikers and bikers, campers and beachers. Tennis, horseback rising, sailing and expeditions into hidden valleys - all have their special rewards and 13 golf courses offer their challenge. The flame of luau torches and the sound of the conch shell signal the excitement of evening on this special Island. More Spectacular From sea level to 14,000 feet...from tropical rainforests to rolling ranchlands...from brisk uplands to sun-swept coastlines...the Big Island is a panorama of variety and grandeur. Youngest, largest and most spectacular of all the Hawaiian Islands, it also remains unspoiled and inviting. Built by five volcanoes, the Island is still growing as Kilauea volcano continues to add to the shoreline. It is a land of contrast.
Just as the Big Island boasts a great variety of attractions, it also features a variety of accommodations, from luxury hotels to modest cabins, condominiums and high-quality bed and breakfast units across the island. The units are designed to fit practically any pocketbook. Similarly, many of the Big Island's tours and cruises are geared around the visitor's needs, so that no traveler need visit the Big Island without taking advantage of the many offerings. And the Big Island people are accommodating - they genuinely enjoy visitors. More Varied The Big Island is striking in its variety. From flower-laden forests and waterfalls to sun-washed beaches with sands of black or white, and rolling pastureland with Hawaiian cowboys. Sun ripened papayas, Kona coffee, exotic orchids, macadamia nut orchards and anthuriums growing under tree ferns speaks of the Island's bounty. The variety is also evident in the Big Island's multi-ethnic people, and in the music and festivals. These charms, though varied, have a constant appeal.
On the Big Island, less is more. There is less traffic...fewer people...less waiting in line...less commercialization and more unspoiled places to explore. It all makes for an unhurried pace, as time seems to stretch to allow for more activities. There is more history to discover, less concern with mundane things...more accommodations at a lower rate. More than twice the size of all the other Hawaiian Islands combined, the Big Island remains less hurried, less crowded, and always ready to extend the Aloha spirit to visitors. The Big Island is truly "more" and "less," including less crime thanks to successful programs such as Crime Stoppers. Help keep it that way! With acknowledgement
